As I read this, I am sipping my Chapoutier Condrieu that Howard educated us all about at a fabulous dinner in LA last year at Campanile with Ken, Arne, Alan Stacey, Michael Thomas, and visiting dignitary Harry Kaplan. I kept this bottle for a special occasion, and can think of none more fitting. Howard walked right into Barbara Walters that night -- literally, when exiting the bathroom. I also recall ordering Guy Pearce for dessert (Arne and I would split him) but the waiter did not seem to understand.
To watch Howard hold court at a dinner table was magnificent. To me, he was the goal in embodiment of knowledge about food and wine.
Well, enough for now. This is making me rather weepy, and I can just hear Howard being cross about getting salty tears in such a magnificent glass of wine.
Thank you, Howard, for being a star in my sky.
