Re: Howard Arthur Faye, 1959-1995

Sim Aberson, 7 Jun 1995

Powell E. Way writes: This year was the prettiest spring in the South that I can remember in my 48 some years.

Isn't it? It's absolutely fabulous here. The royal poincianas are putting on a show like I've never seen in my 24 summers here, bright red everywhere. The mangoes are deep purple and about to fall to the ground. Frangipani, gardenia, and ylang ylang filling the air with their lovely scents.

Howard and I had talked about my showing him around South Florida. I don't think he'd ever been here, and I think he would have really enjoyed it. More importantly, though, is what I never got the chance to be shown by Howard.

I only met him once, in Las Vegas. The picture I will always have of him in my mind is his eating the crab appetizer, pieces of crab and the cream sauce covering his face and hands. I had never met anyone as passionate about anything as Howard. Just that one meeting had a profound influence on my life.

Thanks Howard. I toasted my 1991 Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico to you.
