Jeans

Jack Hamilton, 19 Aug 1992

Chris Black writes: He could be harsh about urban cowboy wannabes -- not that he was the Marlboro Man himself.

I remember a discussion we had once, in a gas station, about blue jeans. There are, he claimed, strong preferences for particular brands among different types of cowboys. Urban cowboys tended to like one make, rodeo cowboys another, and working cowboys a third, because of differences in fit and how they make they wearer look. People in those different categories tend to have different body types as well.

I don't remember which is which now, although the brands we discussed were Levi's, Wrangler, and Lee's. I do remember that we preferred different brands, but I'm not in any of the cowboy categories at all.

Wranglers feel more comfortable to me than Levi's, something which I regret -- Levi Strauss is a local company, and one of the best corporate citizens there is.
