this is to inform you that rob bernardo, of concord, california, a poster to this newsgroup (most recently on the construction of his drip irrigation system), died of hiv disease (his preferred term) last thursday afternoon (13 august 1992) in mt. diablo hospital. he was 40 years old (much too young, much too young).
rob was a dear friend of mine, and of several other posters to this newsgroup. on soc.motss, where we first became friends, he was for over six years one of the voices that made the tone of the group.
he was a linguist -- that's how i first met him, in 1979 -- a horseman (the future of his mare, oriana spadix, is still something of a issue), or more accurately a "cowboy" (sometimes he said "gentleman farmer"), and a computer systems designer. he was also a passionate advocate for gay rights. and a mensch.
i hope some of you will remember his voice here, and miss it.
